All of us have been to school! Some of us had a good experience, others had mixed memories and were left with scars of varying severity.
Whatever the case, we want this experience to be as positive as possible for our children. Find out how alternative therapies are effective on children and what a huge support it can be during their schooling.
Osteopathy and naturopathy to lay the right foundations for children
Osteopathy gets the tissues moving again, in order to promote good mobility, better circulation of fluids and nervous information in the body, to restore a good balance and good overall functioning.
According to Virginie Josio, an osteopath, “children are extremely receptive to osteopathic treatment, the earlier they receive it, the wider and more powerful the field of action.”
Osteopathic treatment can help with:
- Pain: in the back, stomach and head which can impact on concentration, fatigue and mood.
- Trauma: falls, sprains…
- Chronic fatigue
- Stress
- Anxiety
- Attention disorders
- Concentration difficulties
- DYS disorders
- Sleep disorders
This last one can sometimes be the trigger or aggravating factor for all the other disorders.
Good to know: osteopathy in parallel with orthodontic treatment contributes to the effectiveness of the treatment, makes it more bearable and stabilises its effects.
Naturopathy re-establishes the body’s self-healing capacities using natural means. By working on the diet and lifestyle, the naturopath will lay the foundations for optimising the body’s functioning and thus increasing energy and stabilising the nervous system.
The use of food supplements and Bach flowers can also help to:
- stimulate attention
- to relieve stress
- improve sleep
Essential oils can be prescribed to help with relaxation and calming.
In her experience, Claire Colson, a hypnotherapist, naturopath and sophrologist, suggests “a 360° support, combining naturopathy and an emotional management technique, to considerably increase the chances of success.”
Brief therapies to treat more specific problems for your children:
First of all, it is important to know that a therapist in brief therapy is trained in several techniques. Following the anamnesis, they will determine which tool(s) is/are the most suited to the reason for consultation. All these tools are complementary, which is why it is possible to do hypnosis and EFT in the same session, and then EMDR in the following session for example.
EMDR
EMDR is used to work on problems related to a particular event such as
an argument between classmates
disagreement with a teacher
humiliation
etc…
For some children, this type of event can have repercussions on their well-being or their behaviour. It is therefore important to identify and deal with them.
The work is then most often focused on fear:
- fear of reliving the situation
- fear of being in front of the teacher
Following the consultations, the perception of the event becomes neutral and no longer negative, leaving the child calmer and confident to return to school.
EFT, hypnosis and sophrology
EFT, hypnosis and sophrology are used to release emotions, accept them and regain physical and psychological well-being.
These therapies are effective on:
- Emotional management: taking a step back from an argument, a bad grade…
- Stress and anxiety management: serenity in the face of exams, resistance to pressure.
- Anxiety and panic attacks: anticipating them, understanding them, avoiding them
- Letting go: for students who are perfectionists, anxious to do well
- The ability to concentrate
- Self-confidence: in relationships, at work, public speaking
- Fear management: school phobias, fear of failing, fear of school, fear of leaving parents
- Sleep disorders: stop ruminating thoughts
Good to know: EFT, hypnosis and sophrology can also be used to prepare for exams with peace of mind and thus optimise all chances of success.
According to Béatrice de Possesse, an EFT-EMDR therapist, “Some students, if they are not taken care of, can sink in a few months, quickly be pigeonholed and their entire school career suffers. Brief therapies can turn this around quickly, and effectively, so we should take advantage of them.”
